Let's Get This Party Started!

“The Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

That's a very nice saying, but what most people fail to recognize is the fact that normally a whole bunch of crap needs to happen before the first step. I call this stuff "Prep for the Step." In the case of Expedition4am, there's outdoor gear to be gathered and packed, sunscreen to be purchased, and maps to be consulted. On top of that, the four of us need to assemble in a central location-- which in our case will be Boulder, Colorado-- then we need to Rock-Paper-Scissors or wrestle for who gets to sit where in the car. We also need to meet up with the guys at Timex and Base Camp. Not only do we owe them a huge "thanks amigos" for sponsoring this cool adventure, but we have to hit them up for some free schwag, like T-shirts and hats and watches.

So today and Thursday we Prep for the Step... which means Friday we STEP OFF.

Where are we going and what are we doing first? -- To be honest, we haven't decided. A big part of this adventure is its whimsical nature. It's going to be one surprise after another, a total fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants outdoor extravaganza. We may schedule a few things along the way, but hold tight and stay tuned, because things are bound to change from day to day. We could switch it up at any moment, double back, or leap forward. After all, the true essence of an Adventure, is not knowing what will come next!

And just so you know.... I'm Rob, the embedded reporter on this adventure, and I'll do my best to update everyone with exciting posts and pictures along the way. If all goes well, I'll have 2 posts every day... but given that we will be out in the middle of god-knows-where half of the time (sans internet connection) it may slow to 1 post from time to time. At those times, I ask that you talk amongst yourselves. Here at Expedition4am we have User Forums, where open dialogue and debate are highly encouraged. You can discuss topics or meet others with whom you can plan your own adventures. Also keep your eyes open, because we might post some questions and issues for discussion-- sometimes silly issues, other times hard core stuff. We'll just have to see how it goes.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for a detailed Crew Member outline later today!
